                                          BOOK REVIEW

Make a book review, choose the book that you would like to read

In Angels and Demons, the author of The Da Vinci Code drags us into a non-stop spiral of action, a shocking thriller where surprises happen and some of the darkest enigmas in history are revealed. Forces that have been hidden for centuries and now plan to destroy the Church ... literally. The most powerful weapon created by man, a secret organization thirsty for revenge ... and only a few hours to avoid disaster. The eternal struggle between science and religion has turned into a very real war. In a maximum security laboratory, a scientist is murdered with a strange symbol etched into his chest. For Professor Robert Langdon there is no doubt: the Illuminati, the men at odds with the Church since the time of Galileo, have returned. And this time they have the deadliest weapon that humanity has created, an artifact with which they can win the final battle against their eternal enemy. Accompanied by a young scientist and a daring captain of the Swiss Guard, Langdon begins a race against the clock, in a desperate search for the most secret corners of the Vatican. You will need all your knowledge to decipher the hidden keys that the Illuminati have left through the centuries in manuscripts and temples, and all your courage to defeat the ruthless assassin who always seems to be ahead of you. Good afternoon, Swimmers! It has been too long since I was in the bloggosphere despite the time that abounds a bit more thanks to the quarantine. Happy Mommy's Day by the way, and an early congratulation to the teachers and students despite this 40-year-old confinement. As always, it is a pleasure to be back, more because I have the spirits for the skies after finally venturing to continue with the famous Robert Langdon Saga. As you well know, last year I decided to go with this series of books, however, as always happens to me, I was not aware that the Da Vinci Code was about the second book, so I ended up reading it instead of Angels and Demons. It is now when everything has changed and I decided to resume the saga from the beginning so that, when I decide to venture into the lost symbol, I will not go blind at all. I have never applauded my decision so much as at this moment. What is Angels and Demons about then?

Robert Langdon, a privileged professor of religious symbology at Harvard, never imagined that his life would change forever with a call made at midnight. Despite his refusal to help the stranger, believing him to be one of those many religious fanatics who seek empty answers, he is exceedingly surprised when a disturbing image appears on his fax. A corpse has appeared with the mark of the Illuminati, an ancient sect of which he had previously investigated.

At the beginning of the story, he was not entirely happy with the way Robert Langdon was doing. I feel that unlike the Da Vinci code, where we were provided with information on cultures, secret sects and was a bit more analytical, it was a bit poor in terms of references to the Illuminati, which I was eager to know quite a bit about. However, once they arrive in Rome, everything turns into a time bomb about to explode! -literally-. Robert will use his knowledge to find the murderer of Leonardo Vetra in a kind of treasure hunt for the places where the Illuminati have been covering up since time immemorial and that will be the scene of the brutal murder of four important personalities for the Vatican, which will cause that become your ally. This time I had a vision of the real Robert Langdon, since when I met him in the Da Vinci code I felt that he was missing that charismatic streak that every protagonist should have. It is on this occasion that I have finally understood the adoration of quite a few people for the important teacher. As I mentioned earlier, Robert is an American, a professor of history and an expert in religious symbolism at Harvard University. He is said to be handsome, with his unerring tweet jacket and sparkling personality that causes more than one to turn to see him in the crowd. But the most interesting thing about our protagonist is his privileged brain to connect the dots that I was able to know so much in its sequel. He is an extremely analytical person, courageous and open to possibilities. I was glad to see that he is a riskier person than in the other book I read, as well as willing to sacrifice everything for his people. I had an approach to the nude with the small character that Robert Langdon offers, so I hope that in the lost symbol he recovers part of such a wonderful personality. The co-star Vittoria Vetra did owe me a bit in that sense. We meet an important Italian physicist at CERN who has carried out one of the miracles of science that could be a change in all technology but could go to hell if it falls into the wrong hands. I find that Vittoria, despite her inner fire, is too impulsive for my liking and I didn't feel like she was giving too much support towards Robert, not at least as with the mental rapport she had with Sophie.
Speaking now of the heart of the matter, Dan Brown is quite tactful about the fierce relationship science and religion have had since the beginning of time. As you well know, the church has taken unforgivable actions to silence those who were not in the same line, just as science has been devoid of ethics with the passage of time only to achieve fame and fortune. In that sense, I was able to perfectly understand the controversy, where it is not about establishing who is right, but the importance of believing in something that is beyond us or not, that helps us justify that spiritual desire and search that humans have demonstrated. from the beginning, with that rationality that characterizes us, free to make decisions, but putting the conflict on the table.

As if that were not enough, the setting is simply magnificent. We are transported to Rome, the heart of Catholicism where more than 400 churches could be the scenes of the murderer's fierce fight against the church, so it has been a delight to visit such important places as the Sistine Chapel - which I only know in passing. for the art history classes - the Roman pantheon, the Chiagi chapel, Piazza Navona, the Castillo del Ángel among others. Also great manifestations of historical figures such as Galileo Galilei, father of one of the theories most contravened by religion at the time, as well as sculptors such as Rafael Sanzio and Bernini. In fact, what he associated with Rome were the catacombs, its narrow streets and the Colosseum. For this reason, it has been fascinating to know that other side not so hidden of such a wonderful city, which has been preserved almost intact despite the inclement weather and is the cradle of one of the most advanced cultures of all time. From the pen of Dan Brown, I can say that it is a non-stop from start to finish. This is extremely fast and fluid, each thread was complementary to the previous one. I believe that he did not leave any loose ends, although thinking about the transition between the two books, I believe that there are several issues that I have yet to discover in the life of the enigmatic Robert Langdon. The story has great doses of suspense, as well as a historical tinge that you certainly don't even feel because of the great waves of information that leave your brain short-circuiting.
